a simple upgrade to customize your kitchen

Wednesday, January 23

I am currently swamped with kitchen clients: four, to be exact.
Two of them are a total gut job and the other two would like to keep what they have, but desire a whole new look.  There are a few different ways to achieve this.

My favorite trick and one of the best way to customize your kitchen?
Add moldings to your island, your peninsula, and/or the exposed sides of your cabinetry.
This is a simple change and looks especially beautiful
if you're considering painting your wood toned cabinets.

First, let's look at examples of moldings added to the sides of the island.  There are so many options here, depending on your style of kitchen. You can go simple or ornate.  Modern or traditional.

This kitchen has a waterfall countertop instead of millwork--perfect for her home.  The important idea to remember is to pay attention to your island.  Whether that's will moldings or marble!

Here is the example of adding molding to the end of your cabinets.  Design is in the details!

This kitchen mirrored the cabinet doors all the way around.  Love it.

Think about the site lines from your adjoining rooms.  Visitors are more than likely looking at this kitchen from the eating area or an open living room.  I love that they added this simple molding to the front of the island.

Again, mirror your island details with your cabinet doors.

And if you really want to go crazy, how about subway tile across the front of your island?  That should make for easy clean-up!

This farmhouse kitchen by Sarah Richardson is one of my all-time favorites.

If you're considering making upgrades to your kitchen, please don't forget about about the details.  Now every time you look at images of a kitchen I hope you'll take a moment to check for moldings on the island, peninsulas, and cabinetry.

What do you think of these details?  Is this something you've added to your kitchen?

You are right the mouldings make a huge difference dont they. Its funny the style of kitchens in Australia is quite different to these, you dont see a lot of mouldings but then maybe we lean more towards modern than traditional, Im not sure. I really do like this look though.
Iv just started my kitchen renovation, am waiting for the final design drawing to be sent to me so Ill be checking back here for lots of kitchen inspiration in the coming weeks :)

I had moulding added to our builder grade cabinets when we updated our kitchen and it is by far the best upgrade we made! It totally elevated the look of the kitchen and makes these basic cabinets look custom! This a great round-up of inspiration!
