my Portland clients & Wary Meyers

Wednesday, April 4

Even though I feel like I've been doing design for quite a while now, I still pinch myself.  Especially when I get to work with highly creative and stylish clients, like Meghan & Nathan.  These clients (and friends) out of Portland, introduced me to the design team of Wary Meyers.

Their look is bohemian, colorful, and vintage.
These are the inspiration photos Meghan sent me to describe rooms she loved.

This style is a far cry from what my usual clients request, but that doesn't mean I don't like it.  I've only had one other bohemian/vintage client, Julie, and I'm still obsessed with her blush pink dining room!  It's not finished yet (still needs rug, window treatments, and chandelier) but working with someone who is totally willing to step out of the box is a special treat for me.

Back to my Portland clients...
We're making changes to a few different rooms, but this room will be getting a full overhaul.  Except for the pink sofa.  They have lived here for ten years and are ready to update their look.
This is the sofa that will stay.  We may make a few changes to the stairs.  Meghan and her husband are both artists and loving parents.  But I don't think this room fully reflects their style.

We're already talking about possibly adding these pieces to the design:
 vintage book ends

Vintage eyeball cross-section by Donald A. Keller

vintage Rahsaan Roland Kirk poster

tatooed pig by Wary Meyers

Like I said, I'm still pinching myself that I get paid to do something I'm passionate about
and help clients live in a space they love.

What do you think of the boho, slightly hippy look of Wary Meyers?  Too much for you?  Some of their rooms stress me out a bit because there is too much stuff.  But I love the overall vibe.

I like the choice of mid century furniture, but there is just something about the rooms that do not look professionally designed. They do remind me of the 1970s...just not my favorite era. lol

I think it's a really fun style and quite colorful too which is a lot of fun. I love that sofa and the flame stitch pillows are really fun too. I'm excited to see the changes made in this room for them. Isn't it fun to also learn something in return from your clients? I'm working with someone right now who has introduced me to three new artists that are really talented.

What a great look that inspires them. This is what j love about design. I am always stretching and growing after 14 years. Nothing stats the same, even classics get facelifts. That wallpaper is killer. You are going to have a blast on this project, I'm sure.

I like the quirkiness and uniqueness of these spaces. As long as it's filled with this things your clients treasure, not bits added just for the sake of aesthetics. I know you will make it a great success, Abby - x
