Happy Thanksgiving week! Today is actually our nine year wedding anniversary. That seems like something worth celebrating. But we've got a 4 1/2 hour drive to my dad's house and a 20 lb. turkey to bring with us. Ha! I'm looking forward to a weekend of cooking and doing nothing.
Let's talk about design. I've been making more changes to our house and I'm excited to share them with you. Let's take a moment to go back to how the our dining room looked the day we moved in.
Here it is after the new lighting was installed. I added sconces and a new fixture over the table.
The walls were painted, lighting was installed, and I had my grandmother's hutch which is now my buffet. I knew I wanted to paint it but was afraid I would ruin it. BUT...after my latest paint job off of Craig's list, I knew I just wanted to get it done!
After new high gloss paint and hardware, I am seriously in love.
The hardware really makes the piece. They are updated but they still fit the vintage feel of the buffet. I hope my grandmother would be happy that we kept the buffet in the family and made it something we love.
Next up? I think I'm going to paint our dining room table. Gasp! It's from Pottery Barn, and after nine years it looks horrible. I'll keep you posted!
Have a beautiful Thanksgiving! I'm so incredibly thankful to all of you.

It's looking so great! I love the white on the buffet and that mirror is so pretty! Happy Anniversary and Happy Thanksgiving!
I think the updated buffet really pulls all the elements of the room together. Especially the wall color and awesome mirror.
That's one great before and after Abby!! That paint color is so rich and pretty. A very happy and safe Thanksgiving to you and your family - enjoy lots of R&R!!
Great job on the hutch, we have a dresser that belonged to my husband's Grandmother as our buffet. Nobody wanted it [not even the Salvation Army] but I made him drag it home and painted her up in some Cloud White.........now it's the first piece people comment on. I'm sure the table will look just as lovely when you're through with it.
Love the before and after, Abby! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family! xo
Your room looks beautiful! The hutch turned out great and it's nice to have a special piece that means so much . Love your new light. Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving Abby! This is looking so great and so you! I love the white with the walls. Great dynamics. Have a good trip.
Gorgeous!! LOVE that paint color - so rich. What a great contrast with the white buffet - great job! {and Happy Thanksgiving!}
Oh wow what a difference a lick of paint makes! I just love the light fitting too, what a beautiful dining room. Can't wait to see the table next!
Hope you had a wonderful day, Abby - x
You have no idea how long I've wanted to add sconces to my dining room. Since I can't bring in an electrician, I just hung lanterns on each side of my buffet.
White paint sure cures everything doesn't it?
But painting your table? That seems like a lot of work. Are you spraying it or brushing the paint on?
Love the new blue walls also. They look great against your wood floors.
the updated buffet is awesome. I had to scroll back up to double check it was the same one! Great job Abi.
I love the transformation! the room looks gorgeous. I am really loving that paint color on the walls.
Love the white with the blue walls. & the mirror is great. Looks like it is coming along well. Can't wait to see the finish room.
It has all turned out beautifully but please tell me you have kept the pretty floral painting and re-assigned it to another room. Great job!

The room looks gorgeous (and I love the peek of stripes!) That buffet looks so great white. We've got an old, old one too, that I've been hesitant to paint. I think you've changed my mind.
Hope you had a fab holiday!
Your dining room is looking awesome. The buffet looks fantastic!
Looks wonderful! I really like the blue you used on the wall and painting the buffet really gives the room pop! Love how your house is coming along.
