the hunt continues

Tuesday, February 22

After spending last week talking to different contractors, numerous calls with our Realtor, and a few sleepless nights, we decided we STILL wanted to buy the house despite its flaws.  If you're just joining the house hunting story now, the house had a ceiling that was coming down and a sagging floor that needed to be pushed up...among other things.  We we not paying for a "fixer-upper" but felt comfortable with the new agreement we had made with the sellers post-inspection.
WELL...
My hubby made, what we thought was, the call to our agent and learned that
the sellers decided to take the house off the market.
Yep.
Not kidding.
All of that drama for nothing.
Never mind that I had already pictured our life, our future there.

If you are REALLY paying attention you might be thinking to yourself, "Hey, isn't this the second house they have tried to buy that has taken itself off the market?"  Yes.  You are right.

So the hunt continues and I'm O.K. with that.  I had told God (we're tight like that) that if he didn't want us to have the house that he would have to take it away from me because I reeeeeeeeaaaaaallly wanted it.
 Done.

We are going to look at this one sometime this week.
Still hopeful!

Do you have a crazy, roller coaster house hunting story to share?  Do tell!

**Update: the lovely sellers took their house off the market for 24 hours and then listed it again at the same price with the same agent.  If you are local and looking for a house with a sagging foundation and ceilings falling down--go check it out!**

aw, sweetie, so sorry it didn't work out. If you would consider Canada, there's a fantastic house just down the street :) We've lost a few over the years.. but it led us to this one, and you'll find your perfect fit too - x

aww hun.. so sorry to hear that roller coaster is still running!! i agree, God is in control, and has something very special in store for you!! and yes, we have had our share of real estate drama. {former Realtor..lots of stories..lol} but personally, we tried to buy a house while in transit with the air force, and once we arrived in town.. that little 'charmer' of a house was nothing like the pics!! so we backed out. 2nd house we found was in a trust, and we haggled w/ their children for weeks.. only to lose it in the end. so we ended up in a neighborhood we never suspected {really great one, actually!} and sold it 3 years later, for a good profit! so don't lose hope.. your home is out there! :)

Thanks everyone! Well, I just heard that the house (kitchen) pictured above already sold so we won't be buying that one either. This process is really testing my endurance and patience!

No crazy house stories yet, but finding a decent student apartment has definitely been a challenge!

"Jesus take the wheel", the Carrie Underwood song was going through my mind as I read this....Our last house we bought (in it now)...was a house swap...they bought ours and we bought theirs...boy was that a nightmare...them losing a job in the middle of it and our loan getting bogged down in underwriting!!! Lots of glitches..you are not the only one..hang in there!!! HE will provide!

Oh, Abby, I'm so sorry! What a nightmare! I do have stories - both personal & as a Realtor. Current story is selling our previous house: Our buyers had to sell their house to buy ours. Closing was last August and all agents & mortgage people said all is good. Day of tandem closing: a document is missing for our buyer's buyer. 2 days later all falls apart - those buyers should never have been approved. So we & our buyers are left with houses and its the end of the selling season!! We were lucky to get a renter for the winter, but they are moving out this month and house will be back on market. I'm really worried we may be stuck with it for a while. Anyone need a house in central pa? ;) I have yet to hear of a perfect closing.

That really stinks...when we moved to AZ, we put in like 3 or 4 offers on houses and had *DIFFERENT* problems with every. single. stinkin. one. )c: Funny enough, we had asked the big guy the same thing "if it's not in the cards, tell us!" I guess He did! (c: Good luck on the house hunt, I'm pretty sure there is nothing quite so frustrating, but it will all be worth it when you find "THE ONE"!

I cannot believe it! My house stories are on the opposite end of the spectrum. My first house I bought new and I when I sold it, it went in 5 days. Even better that I was in Hawaii and didn't have to worry about being out of my house for showings. When I bought my next house, same week, it was only on the market for one day. Of course, this was when homes were selling faster than a speeding bullet, 6 years ago. Now, my mom's house has been on the market for well over a year and not a buyer in site. I have no doubt you will find your house soon!

Abby, So sorry to hear this. I feel your pain. We bought our home in California almost 3 years ago when the market was not so bad...We put bids on 5 houses...no joke , and all fell through in one way or another. It took us a total of 4 months to find what we were looking for. In the end we bought the best house for us. Your home is out there waiting for you! Happy Tuesday!

Abby...I looked at about 150 houses before we bought ours...and it came on the market at 9 that morning and there were already 2 offers on it. So we put an offer in for $100.00 more and said that they had to make their decision in 24 hours . We were pre-qualified.....and got it! I am so glad I waited!
You will find the perfect one. Lot's of houses go on the market in the spring.

Just means there is something 10 times better!! I know that has to be frustrating though!

The right house will come along...we went through similar trials before getting our current home. After all of the house hunt turmoil, we got the perfect home for us!!

Megan {Honey We're Home} said...

oh my gosh, I can't believe that! You have the right attitude with thanking God for closing doors though- He has your perfect house in His perfect timing. Although I'm sure it's not easy in the meantime:)
